SIS PRESENTATIONS

Monthly meetings

There are so many wonderful and educational books that have empowered us since we started SIS. In 2022, we created a Book Club to discuss our collective understanding and share our moments of revelation!

We meet quarterly on ZOOM.

Some of the books we have read so far include:

Speaking of Race by Celeste Headlee

Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabelle Wilkerson

When the Stars Begin to Fall: by Theodore R. Johnson

We were fortunate to have a chance to interview Dr. Johnson, too! Deep & enlightening!

SIS PRESENTATIONS

We often avoid dealing with issues of race or other difficult questions related to differences because of fear or because we have a stereotypical perception of “the other”  which is negative. The sharing of life stories in a non-threatening way illustrates that connecting with people who have different experiences can lead to understanding, empathy and, yes, friendships.

In their presentations, SIS uses lived experiences followed by a facilitated round table discussion to inform, spark conversation and provoke  thoughtful reflection on our beliefs and attitudes. We have presented to many community organizations, and they love it!

If you are interested in having SIS put on a presentation for your group, please contact us!

About the Founders of SIS

In May 2020, we asked: How can we better understand our neighbors of different races? We decided it should start with conversation.

Seeking Insights for Solutions (SIS) is a 501.c.3 nonprofit organization founded in the aftermath of George Floyd’s killing, when two Black and two White women—members of a local women’s group—came together to confront  the racial divide within their own lives and community. Although they knew each other only casually, they had never engaged in honest conversations about how race had shaped their experiences.

Through a series of cross-racial interviews—sharing stories of childhood, family messages, education, careers, and encounters with race—they discovered the transformative power of listening deeply to one another’s truths. Those early conversations became the foundation for something bigger.

What began as a small circle of dialogue grew into a vibrant sisterhood of over sixty women—nearly equal numbers of Black and White members—committed to eliminating racial inequality through truth-telling, authentic  connection, and collective action. As their understanding deepened, so did their resolve to share what they had learned. SIS produced two compelling videos—one featuring women and one featuring men—and published the anthology Where Colors Meet: A Tapestry of Black and White, amplifying voices and lived experiences that challenge assumptions and inspire empathy.

Today, SIS continues to build bridges across racial lines through workshops, storytelling, community partnerships, and local initiatives that promote justice, respect, and sustainable connection. The organization envisions the SIS model spreading across the United States and beyond—creating spaces where honest dialogue becomes a catalyst for healing and meaningful change.

Our Vision: A society empowered by racial equality, social justice, and mutual respect.

Our Mission: To eliminate racial inequality and social injustice by acknowledging history, fostering interracial dialogue, and promoting understanding, acceptance, and respect across races.
